Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Kyle Arganbright, the president of Sandhills State Bank about their food drive they will doing until December 18th.
NORTH PLATTE - Sandhills State Bank will be doing a food drive until December 18th to help collect food for folks who may need it during the holiday season. The bank is collecting non-perishable food items at all 10 branches the bank runs. To donate food, you just need to take it to your local branch.

Post News Director Canon Rath got the chance to talk with Andrea Wenburg with the North Platte Rotary Club about raising funds for Kenya. The funds will be used to purchase sewing machines to send over to Kenya.
NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Rotary Club is gearing up for a fundraiser event involving Christmas caroling to raise funds to purchase 6 sewing machines to send to Kenya. The club is looking to raise $1,400 to purchase the 6 machines with. The machines will be used to create new uniforms for school children who attend Overcoming Faith Schools. The school has over 900 students.
The group will be caroling from 6:00pm - 9:00pm on December 22nd in North Platte. The club says for a suggested $50 donation, you can have the carolers come to your home or send the group to someone else's home. If you would like to donate, you can send checks to North Platte Rotary PO Box 2313, North Platte, NE 69103. If you are interested in having the carolers, come to your or someone's home or interested in being a caroler for the event you can email Andrea at andrea@voiceofinfluence.net. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with KLPR Co-Sports Director Jon Willis about the upcoming award ceremony in New York City.
NORTH PLATTE - 91.1 KLPR is the student-run radio station at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and is run by students of campus. Every year, KLPR submits clips to the Intercollege Broadcasting System Awards in New York City and this year, KLPR students are finalists in 7 categories. Students who are finalists come from all over Nebraska and two are from Kansas.
In our coverage area, North Platte native Kade Mohr is a finalist for Best Sports Play by Play alongside Willis, Traeton Harimon of Bayard is a finalist for Best Sports Update along with Willis, Ethan McCormick and Alex Hammeke. Finally, Rhiannon Painter of Valentine is a finalist for Best PSA alongside Seth Heikes, Paige Steinman, and Morgan Semm. The IBS Media Awards will be presented March 2 during the organization’s annual conference in New York City.

NORTH PLATTE - Murphy Tractor & Equipment Company has officially broken ground at their new location 3402 Jeffers Street in North Platte. Community members gather around for the groundbreaking ceremony. The company is located across five states: Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Ohio and was founded in 1982. The company has 29 locations across the five states. Murphy Tractor & Equipment Company is one of John Deere's largest North America construction Equipment dealer organizations.
Murphy Tractor & Equipment Company is building an operations facility in North Platte. "Our new operations facility is modern, more efficient facility we have today where we sell and service John Deere equipment," said Bill Buckles, Murphy Tractor & Equipment Company President. "We are looking forward to expanding our services and growing the business."

Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Teresa Helie, member with The Compassionate Friends Group about the Worldwide Candle Lighting event taking place this Sunday but also to learn more about the Compassionate Friends Group.
NORTH PLATTE - This Sunday, is the Worldwide Candle Lighting for The Friends Compassionate Group as chapters will light off their candle at 7:00pm as the candles will stay lit for an hour in honor of a child who has passed away. The Compassionate Friends Group North Platte Chapter invites members from the public to arrive at the First Lutheran Church at 6:30pm to participate in the 7:00pm candle lighting event. Guests are asked to bring a candle, a picture if they choose too and the group ask guests if they can bring a votive candle.
The Compassionate Friends Group is a worldwide group of people who have lost their children, grandchildren or lost someone and need folks to talk with. Members in this group meet once a month and will learn from one another. The group was founded over 50 years ago. NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte city council held their regular meeting on December 5th and there were different agenda that was discussed amongst the council. Some items discussed in this council meeting included: new license for NPICE, annexation of land south and west of city industrial park, Downtown Christmas parade, housing solutions for North Platte and more.

NORTH PLATTE - With December starting to roll through, the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is off to a strong start for this year's campaign. This week, Habitat for Humanity and the North Platte Rotary club are doing a match day with the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is anywhere between 30-32% of their goal for the end of the campaign. This Friday will be the community dinner. The free event is open to everyone who wants to enjoy a meal with the community. Turkey, mash potatoes are just a few of the items that will be available. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Lenny Hassel about the upcoming North Platte Elks Lodge #985 Hoop Shoot that's taking place this Sunday.
NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Elks Lodge #985 is hosting their annual Hoop Shoot challenge this upcoming Sunday at Adams Middle School in North Platte. The event is for ages 8-13 (age determined as of April 1st, 2024) and is free to participate. Doors will open around 12:30pm for sign ups. Girls will shoot at 1:00pm and boys will shoot at 2:00pm. Each shooter will have 25 free throw attempts.
