OGALLALA - Shop Small is a national wide campaign that kicks off this Saturday, Nov. 25th to dedicate a day of shopping to small businesses in communities. As Saturday approaches, Ogallala is gearing up for Shop Small Saturday. The community is full of many small businesses to shop and support. With the holiday season, shopping small is a great opportunity to get a once in a lifetime gift for someone special. This year, participating in business will be a part of a special passport that will be handed out Saturday.

Post Sports Director had the chance to talk with Haven Smith from the Mid-Plains United Way and also Mark Russell aka Dragon, the President of the Guardians of the Children. The crew talked about what's been going on with the United Way but also giving us an inside of Guardians of the Children.
NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way recently announced late last week that they received a check from Ace Hardware for just a little over $800. Ace Hardware did a dollar round up in the month of October to help raise money for United Way. Mid-Plains United Way has a busy time ahead of them as they have more events coming up.

- North Platte Year End Giving Starts Tuesday, Nov. 28th
-Gift Wrapping: Friday, Dec. 8th - Dec. 10th at Walmart here in North Platte. Presented by Lashley Land
-Triple Bee Holiday Craft Show Concession Stand: Dec. 16th & 17th at the D&N Event Center
-Giving Tree - FNBO at 201 N Dewey to benefit Hope Esperanza and Nebraska Youth Center Dec. 1st-20th.
Guardians of the Children is a non-profit motorcycle organization that helps children that have gone or may be going through child abuse. Members in the organization will attend the court hearings with these children and show their support for the children while they are testifying in court against their perpetrator.
The organization is also hosting a toy drive that will go through Dec. 5th and has partnered with Taco Johns. Both North Platte Taco Johns is doing their Nacho Navidad fundraiser for GOC as they are donating $.25 for Apple Grande & $.50 for a LG Nacho Navidad.

Post News Director Canon Rath welcomed Mardel Manary and Diane Nuffer from the North Platte Opportunity Center for their monthly conversation but also to talk about the supported employment department.
NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Opportunity was awarded the Sara Rickertsen Grant last month and have recently used the money to purchase 2 speech tablets for individuals who are nonverbal to use and hooked up phonics as well as flash cards. "I have heard several reports that a couple of the individuals are already recognizing sight words and it's exciting to see that it's doing what we wanted to do," said Mardel Manary.
The NPOC has a supported employment department for individuals to help get jobs and work. The staff at the NPOC helps individuals with resumes, practice interview skills are just a few of many to name. With the supported employment department, it helps Indvidual's who are involved feel included within the community and build confidence.

OGALLALA - Keith County is gearing up for the Annual Keith County Holiday Craft Fair which is taking place tomorrow at the fairgrounds in Ogallala from 9:00am -12:00 pm (mountain time zone). Around 30 vendors will be participating at this years craft fair. During the craft fair, you can expect many one of a type gifts. For shoppers who are still wanting to explore craft fairs after finishing the Keith County Holiday Craft Fair, just 20 miles down the road, Paxton will be hosting their craft fair as well,

Post News Director chatted with Camon Landry from the Salvation Army and the pair discussed the upcoming Salvation Army holiday fundraiser and community events.
NORTH PLATTE - The Salvation Army is gearing up for the holiday season and the Red Kettle Campaign started this past Monday. The Salvation Army is also preparing food box donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas, a toy drive and so much more.
The Red Kettle campaign is the Salvations Army biggest fundraiser event. The iconic red kettles are seen all around the United States. The Red Kettles started in North Platte this past Monday. Volunteers stand out ringing the bells in front of the kettles. North Platte will be ringing at 8 locations this holiday season. Post Sports Director Paxton Gordon chatted with former Husker volleyball player, current Omaha Supernovas Team Ambassador/Assistant Director of Fan Engagement Kenzie Maloney about the Supernovas and her role with the organization.
NORTH PLATTE - The Omaha Supernovas are the first ever professional volleyball team in the state of Nebraska and gearing up for their first season in a brand-new professional volleyball league, the Pro Volleyball Federation. The league consists of 8 teams and the league plays a 24-game regular season. Omaha will host 12 matches at the CHI Health Center. The league's first ever match will take place at CHI Health Center on January 24th, 2024, between the Supernovas and the Atlanta Vibe at 7pm.
Maloney is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and spent 4 years when the Nebraska Volleyball team. During her time in Nebraska, she was a two-time national champion with the Huskers. Maloney was a four-year standout at both Libro and Defensive Specialist. She was an AVCA All-America Third Team member after her senior season in 2018.
For the Supernovas, Maloney is the Assistant Director of Fan Engagement for the Supernovas but also one of three Team Ambassadors alongside former Husker, Kenzie Knuckles and former Creighton Bluejay, Jaela Zimmerman. As a Team Ambassador, Maloney puts it hand in hand with her current position of Assistant Director of Fan Engagement. "It's viewed as a fan engagement position, so we (team ambassadors) do a good job of spreading the word of the Pro Volleyball Federation and letting people know what it is, where they can find tickets, where they can get involved," said Kenzie Maloney.

NORTH PLATTE - The Connection Homeless Shelter in North Platte is getting ready to wrap up their Out of the Box Challenge with the final presentations going on November 16th at Brigham's Taproom. Participants will be bringing there house to the Taproom at 5:00pm and guests can vote on which one is the best. During the evening event, there will be a big specials announcement made.

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Mid-Plains United Way's Haven Smith and Lora Ballard from the Nebraska Youth Center. Smith gives us an update of what's going on with Mid-Plains United Way while we learn from Ballard what the Nebraska Youth Center is.
NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way campaign is officially underway for the 2023-2024 campaign year. The United Way is raising money to help support their partner agencies. The Nebraska Youth Center is one of many partners agencies that works with Mid-Plains United Way.
The Mid-Plains United Way has many upcoming events as we head into the holiday season. The events include:
- Giving Tuesday, November 28th
- Wrapped By Elves: Friday, December 8th-Sunday December 10th at Walmart in North Platte, presented by Lashely Land
- Triple Bee Holiday Craft Show Concession Stand: December 16th and 17th at the D&N Event Center in North Platte
- Giving Tree-FNBO @ 201 Dewey to benefit Hope Esperanza and Nebraska Youth Center during December 1st-20t
The Nebraska Youth Center is to provide a safe environment for youths in crisis who can find acceptance in resolving issues. The center provides opportunities for these youth to positively change their behavioral patterns. The Nebraska Youth Center opened up its facility in North Platte in 2011.

Post News Director Canon Rath sat down with Axes & Aces owners Lisa Citta and Brian Schimek and discussed the newest family fun/group entertainment attraction that is preparing to open in North Platte.
NORTH PLATTE - Axes & Aces, the newest attraction coming to North Platte and offers a family fun/group entertainment setting for everyone to enjoy. The new attraction will have golf simulators, axe throwing and pickle ball courts. The location also features a bar and will have a kitchen. As of now, the kitchen is not completed as parts to finish the kitchen will be coming in the next couple of weeks. Follow along Axes & Aces Facebook page for updates on the kitchen progress and when it will be completed. A grand opening date is still in the works and once it has been finalized, it will be posted on the Axes & Aces Facebook page.
Axes & Aces has hosted a few private events over the last few weeks with the North Platte Pickleball Club getting the chance to play on the brand new pickleball courts. During Halloween, Axes & Aces hosted the Spooktacular Pickleball event which ended up being a 2-day event with how fast the first night filled up.
Axes & Aces will be showing the Husker/Maryland game today at 11:00am and the bar is fully stocked and ready to go. The owners want to remind guests that there will be no food as the kitchen is still being worked on.
