Post News Director Canon Rath talked with Amy Sabatka and Jackie Curtis about the upcoming play Steel Magnolias in early November. Sabatka and Curtis are actresses in the play.
NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Community Playhouse in conjunction with the North Platte Community College Theatre Department will present "Steel Magnolias" on Nov. 10th-12th and Nov. 17th-19th at the Fox Theatre in North Platte. Showtimes are 7:30pm on Friday's and Saturday's while Sunday's will be 2pm.
The show "Steel Magnolias" is a comedy-drama about a group of Southern women who bond over life's triumphs and tragedies. The play premiered off Broadway in 1987 and was subsequently adapted into a movie starring Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, and Darly Hannah in 1989. The North Platte rendition will focus on the Broadway adaptation, not the movie.
The unique twist the North Platte rendition is that the play has a double cast which means there are two actors for every role. Cast members will only perform in 3 out of the 6 shows, bringing a different perspective to every show.
The cast will consist of:
- Truvy – Tia Cooper and Jackie Curtis
- Annelle – Gianna Tejral and Kate Werkmeister
- Clairee – Chris Vieyra and Bea Webster
- M’Lynn – Amy Sabatka and Tosha Shotkoski
- Shelby – Lauren Franklin and Anja Tejral
- Ouiser – Lynnette Niles and Anne Schmit
- Direction and Design – Ritch Galvan
- Stage Manager – Nathaniel Allen
- Assistant Stage Manager – Angel Chua
For ticket prices, adults are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. High school students with a school ID can get tickets for $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. Lastly MPCC students, staff, and faculty just need to show their ID to get into the show for free.
Tickets will go on sale a week before the performance. Tickets can be purchased online at: northplattecommunityplayhouse.com or at the playhouse box office Monday through Friday from 12:00pm - 5:00pm. You can also purchase tickets at the door an hour before the show.
