Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Muriel Clark about the upcoming Sutherland Economic Development Open House & Town Hall Meeting taking place on Oct. 24th.
NORTH PLATTE - The Village of Sutherland is hosting an Economic Development Open House & Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24th from 7:00pm-8:00pm at the Village of Sutherland Office. The event is open to the public and is a great time to learn about the economic program but also voice their concerns and ideas for growth for the community. It's also an opportunity to learn about the 3 Sutherland Economic Development Programs: Business Development Loan and Grant, Property Improvement Program Loan and Grant (Commercial and Residential) and Digital Marketing Grant.
The residents of Sutherland voted for LB840 in May of 2022 which is a collection of 1.5% sales tax. "It's an opportunity for businesses and citizens of Sutherland to learn about our economic development program and its brand new," said Muriel Clark. "We began collecting those funds in January of 2023, so we got about 6, 7 months of those collections coming into our coffers, and we are just wanting to let people know the funds we have and what is available to do with those funds."

NORTH PLATTE - The Kwik Stop Youth Basketball League for 3rd-6th graders registration is officially open. The deadline to register is November 12th. It's $50 to register for the league. You can register at the Rec Center or Sports Shoppe and you can also register individually or by team. Games begin in December and ran tell January. Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with 4-H'er McKenna Lundvall and 4-H Development Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson about the 4-H Fashion Revue and Clothing Project.
NORTH PLATTE - 4-H is America's largest youth development program across the United States that helps learn skills that will last a lifetime. The age requirement for 4-H is the ages of 8-18. There are many different categories that 4-H'ers can participate in during their time in the program. Some kids may not like showing animals as 4-H offers many other categories to participate in. One is the fashion revue.
The 4-H Fashion Revue is how a person can present himself/herself through clothing, grooming, facial expression and body movement is a form of communication. The goal is to help develop an understanding of personal presentation in public situations with regard to clothing, accessories and grooming. Sewing is an area that can be tough for many at first. "I did tie-dye in the beginning because I really didn't know how to sew and progressively you get more skills in sewing," said 4-H'er McKenna Lundvall.

NORTH PLATTE - Great Plains Health in North Platte is offering a free Osteoporosis screening this Saturday, Oct. 21st from 8am - 12pm. The event is taking place at the Great Plains Health Conference Center in North Platte. The event is for anyone over the age of 50 and no registration is required.

This meeting type items featured a $4.5 application to the federal government for housing, public safety building process, ordering ambulance, and more. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Marcus Taylor about the upcoming Trevin Jeffs & Travis Roberts Benefit event this upcoming Saturday.
NORTH PLATTE - The Trevin Jeffs and Travis Roberts Benefit will be taking place this Saturday from 12pm - 2pm at Budke Powersports in North Platte. The event is a chili feed and silent auction with a variety of auction items being donated from business around the community. The event is $10 per person. All proceeds will go to the families of Jeffs and Roberts.
Jeffs and Roberts were both injured in a motorcycle accident on Oct. 8th. Both riders sustained broken bones and other injuries. Jeffs and Roberts are a part of a group of riders here in North Platte and the idea of the benefit came during a discussion in the riders group chat. This will be one of several benefits for these gentlemen.
The two riders sustained severe injuries from the wreck and all proceeds collected at the benefit will go to the riders' families. "All the proceeds are going to be split evenly between the families to help cover these medical expenses and some of the expenses to get back and forth between here and Omaha where both of these gentlemen are currently recovering at," said Marcus Taylor.

Smith recaps the FNBO Chili Cook-Off and gives us a more Indepth looking into Mid-Plains United Way. Hipp talks about the mentoring program at the Community Connections
NORTH PLATTE - The Mid-Plains United Way kicked off their 2023-2024 campaign with the 28th Annual FNBO Chili Cook-Off. For this year's event, over 240 people attended and almost $4,000 was raised. The event this year raised $500 more than last year.
Mid-Plains United Way supports 11 non-profits and serves in a 16-county region. "The non-profits provide services and programs that improve education and health and finical stability for people in need," said Mid-Plains United Way Executive Director Haven Smith.
One of these organizations that is supported by the Mid-Plains United Way is Community Connections of Lincoln County. Community Connections is a non-profit that matches youths with mentors. Many of the youths will be matched up with mentors that have very similar skill sets.
Teammates is another program that matches youth with mentors. However, Community Connections has a slightly different approach than Teammates. "Well just that, you know (Teammates) school based, there meeting at the school at a set time each week. There are kids who need maybe some mentoring outside of the school," said Mentoring Coordinator Angela Hipp. "We think the relationship can really flourish when they are able to go do that."

NORTH PLATTE – The 21st annual G.R.E.E.N. fundraising event for the North Platte Catholic Schools is planned for Saturday, October 21st at St. Patrick High School. Generating Resources for Educational Excellence Now is the largest single event of the year for the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Trust, which works year-round to generate around $600,000 for McDaid and St. Patrick’s schools.
Endowment Director Wendy Dodson says that this year’s event will feature all of the things that supporters have loved about G.R.E.E.N. over the years… A delicious meal, an online silent auction, Heads or Tails game, Lucky Lotto drawing, live auction, and Spirit Wagon raffle. Plus, guests may also try their hand at the Wall of Wine and the Wall of Whiskey and enjoy some fun entertainment with the Polka Police.
Dodson says that since the G.R.E.E.N. event began in 2003, it has generated over $2.1 million dollars in support of the North Platte Catholic Schools. These funds have been used to establish a teacher retirement fund, support general operations of McDaid and St. Patrick’s, fund school improvement projects and technology, and to provide tuition assistance for families.

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Vaughn Fahrenbruck who is the senior pastor for the Rock Church in North Platte. The Rock Church is hosting a RocktoberFest this Saturday.
NORTH PLATTE - The Rock Church in North Platte is hosting their annual RocktoberFest this Saturday beginning at 5:30 at the Rock Church. The event will have family friendly activities, chili and cinnamon rolls, live music, pumpkin painting, and so much more. The event is free for anyone to attend.
This event initially started off as a chili cookoff before being switched to something fun and new. "It started out as a chili cookoff in our church, and we wanted to show North Platte how much we love our community," said Rock Church Senior Pastor Vaughn Fahrenbruck. "Were very for North Platte, very for our community and decide let's open it up to the entire city." The Rock Church wanted to find ways to expand their chili cookoff and get the community involved and that's how RocktoberFest was created. "We wanted to make it as a popup pumpkin patch and let's make it fun and let's make it free," said Vaughn.

Post News Director Canon Rath caught up with Ashley Lewis from the Connection Homeless Shelter for their monthly conversation. This time, the two talked about the Out of Box Challenge the Connection Homeless Shelter is hosting.
NORTH PLATTE - The Connection Homeless Shelter is hosting a fundraiser event called the Out Of The Box Challenge. The shelter wants to invite local businesses, emergency personnel services, or just anyone who wants to form a team and take part in the challenge. The Connection Shelter would like to have business show off there boxes from November 13th-16th which is Hunger/Homeless Awareness Month. The final day of the event is November 16th at Brigham's Taproom where the teams can show off there box and have members vote who is the best. There is a registration fee of $200 per team.
The idea of the challenge is to grab a box and build a house out of it. The fundraiser event is to help raise money for the homeless shelter. There are dimension rules on the box which have to be 4x4x4. If you would like to learn more about the event, check out the podcast above.
