Memorial Day Challenge hit’s Lincoln County Raceway this Saturday night in North Platte

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - The High Plains Late Model series
accompanied by IMCA Modifieds, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and IMCA Stock Cars will race Saturday night at the Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte part of the Memorial Day Challenge.

 

THE FIRST 100 VETERANS AND/OR ACTIVE MILITARY HAVE FREE ENTRY,  sponsored by Lincoln County Raceway and the North Platte Visitors Center.

 

Grandstands open at 6:00 pm
Racing begins at 7:00

Adults- $15.00
Kids- $10.00

North Platte business offering free rides at Cody Park to kick off summer season this Friday

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - The first day of North Platte's Cody Park amusement rides is coming up this Friday, and for the 7^th year in a row, Chad and Rhonda Fosdick and their company's Premier Rental, Glass Doctors and Mr. Appliance will offer the community Free Rides from 5-9pm Friday evening to kick off the summer at North Platte's largest park. Chad Fosdick says "we're all a tight knit family (Premier Rental, Glass Doctors, Mr. Appliance employees), but we vary rarely can all get together because we're all out working and helping customers." He says that "selfishly it's a way for us to all get together and do an event together, then you couple that with it's Cody Park free rides; it's even better."

 

In addition to the free rides, the Cody Park Concessions stand will be open with it's famous ice cream and Dusty Trails will be there with their petting zoo.

Coldwell Banker Community Open House Saturday at D & N Event Center in North Platte

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - Over 140 vendors, non-profits, businesses, food trucks and more will be part of the 1st Coldwell Banker Community Open House Saturday at North Platte's D & N Event Center. The event is free to the public, and runs from 9am-5pm. Nancy Faulhaber with Coldwell Banker was in the North Platte Post studio this week to talk about this event. Enjoy the conversatoin.

St Pat’s Skills USA team headed to Nationals

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - The North Platte Saint Patrick's boys Skills USA team has qualified for the National Skills USA competition June 18 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The SkillsUSA Championships are career competition events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.

Through an investment from business and industry partners of approximately $36 million, the event occupies a space equivalent to 31 football fields or 41 acres. In 2022, there were more nearly 5,200 contestants in 108 separate events. Nearly 2,000 judges and contest organizers from labor and management make the national event possible.

The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.

The NPSP boys team qualified in "Video News Production", in which Teams of four have two hours to write and produce their rundown before the assigned competition time. Two students serve as the news anchor team, one student serves as the team’s director/technical director, and one student is the floor director. Teams will produce and complete a three-minute newscast as if it were live. Teams are evaluated on their broadcast writing ability, voice quality, diction, timing and pacing and performance techniques.

The boys are holding fundraising events to pay for their trip. The first fundraiser is May 20th with a pickleball tournament, they'll host a pork feed June 4.

The team is made up of Trey Furmanski, Emilio Dimas, Isaas Irish, and Hunter Deeds.

North Platte Businessmen Challenge Each Other To Water Bottle Collection to Benefit Local Rural Fire Departments

NORTH PLATTE, Neb - With the rains this week, wildfires are probably the furthest thing from our minds right now, but it was only a week ago that we were talking about how dry it is, and how strung out many of our rural fire departments must feel. We also know how quickly the weather can change. The dry weather earlier this year led two North Platte businessmen to challenge either other to raise the most donations of bottled water that would ultimately be donated to rural fire departments around the area. Agri-Affiliates' Chase Dodson and State Farm Insurance agent Jordan Boston are on a crusade to collect the most bottles of water, for a good cause.

North Platte Plainsmen have new GM, looking forward to starting the season

Charles Lucas, from Raliegh, North Carolina is the new General Manager of the North Platte Plainsmen. Lucas started on May 1 in North Platte. The POST's Derek Beck sat down with owners Chuck and Mayra Heeman, and Charles Lucas to talk about the upcoming season.
